Junior Portfolio Analyst
CAREER OPPORTUNITY
An exciting opportunity exists for a Junior Portfolio Analyst to join the Risk Department. The Junior Portfolio Analyst will play a crucial role in analysing portfolio performance, providing valuable insights that ensure our portfolios operate both profitably and ethically. This position is based in Centurion.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Analyse short-term insurance portfolios using statistical methods, providing recommendations on pricing, trends, and portfolio behaviour
•Research industry trends and developments to enhance existing methodologies and support data-driven decision-making
•Extract, manipulate, and analyse data from SQL databases, utilizing statistical software packages for advanced analysis
•Collaborate with insurers and brokers by hosting regular meetings to present portfolio performance findings and coordinate the implementation of any action plans that may arise
•Generate, maintain, and distribute recurring specialized reports for clients, ensuring accuracy and relevance
Develop customized reports and dashboards to address analytical client queries and provide insights for a growing customer base
•Ensure that insurers’ portfolios remain profitable while achieving growth in alignment with their risk appetite, without compromising profitability
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
Minimum Requirements:
•Applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing a BCom or BSc degree, preferably with a strong focus on Statistics and/or Insurance
Work Experience
Minimum Requirements:
•At least 1-3 years of minimum experience
Preferably, in addition to the above:
•Must have practical experience with statistical tools and proficiency in Microsoft products, including MS Excel and SQL Server
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Minimum Requirements:
•Strong knowledge of SQL Server, or a willingness to quickly become proficient through self-study in a matter of weeks
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with a particular emphasis on Excel
Preferably, in addition to the above:
•Practical knowledge of short-term insurance practices
•A solid understanding of financial mathematics and statistics; basic knowledge of accounting is a plus
•Familiarity with statistical tools, such as R or Python
