Business Analyst

CAREER OPPORTUNITY
An exciting opportunity exists for a Business Analyst reporting to the Software Development Department. This position is based in Centurion.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Gather information, e.g. by interviewing stakeholders
• Analyze and document the business needs
• Facilitate the design of a solution and write a functional requirement specifications
• Arrange for review and sign-off
• Determines operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats.
• Designs new computer programs by analyzing requirements; constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications.
• Improves systems by studying current practices; designing modifications.
• Recommends controls by identifying problems; writing improved procedures.
• Defines project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases, and elements; forming project team; establishing project budget.
• Monitors project progress by tracking activity; resolving problems; publishing progress reports; recommending actions.
• Maintains system protocols by writing and updating procedures.
• Provides references for users by writing and maintaining user documentation; providing help desk support; training users.
• Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
• Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification
Minimum Requirements:
•Matric
•University degree with subjects related to business and perhaps also technology
Preferably, in addition to the above:
•Certificate of Proficiency (or better) of the Insurance Institute of SA

•Some formal training in business analysis, business process management or related

Work Experience
Minimum Requirements:
•At least 2 years hands-on working experience in short-term insurance, either in an insurance company or broking environment
Preferably, in addition to the above:
•Skill and experience in analyzing business requirements and writing specifications in the financial services industry
•Prior experience in process analysis and documentation of business processes, templates and detailed operational procedures

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Minimum Requirements:
•PC literacy: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software (especially Word and Excel)
•A basic understanding of databases and financial transaction processing systems
•Knowledge of formal methodologies to analyze business requirements and processes
Preferably, in addition to the above:
•An understanding of short term insurance products and rating methods
•Demonstrated ability to interview end users
