Senior Software Engineer: Websure Plus & Applied AI

CAREER OPPORTUNITY

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Software Engineer to join the IT Department. This position is based in Centurion.

ROLE PURPOSE

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Software Engineer will accelerate the delivery and modernisation of Websure Plus while strengthening the technical capability of the existing development team.

The role requires an experienced software engineer who has designed, built, tested, and supported production systems using modern technologies. The engineer will work directly on complex Websure Plus product requirements, technical problems, integrations, and customer migrations.

The engineer will also help Brolink introduce practical AI capabilities into software delivery and selected Websure Plus business processes.

This is a delivery role. The successful candidate must write code, solve difficult problems, review technical work, and help less experienced developers grow. The duties and responsibilities of the Software Engineer include the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Websure Plus product delivery

• Design, develop, test and support production-quality Websure Plus functionality.
• Translate business and insurance requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Work across front-end, service, database and integration layers where required.
• Take ownership of complex features from technical design through to production support.
• Deliver maintainable solutions that support reuse and controlled product configuration.
• Balance customer requirements with the need to protect the integrity of the core Websure Plus platform.
• Identify delivery risks early and propose workable solutions.

Technical problem-solving

• Investigate and resolve complex application, data, integration, and performance problems.
• Diagnose the root cause of defects rather than treating only the visible symptoms.
• Improve system performance, reliability, supportability, and security.
• Use logs, metrics, traces, and diagnostic tools to understand production behaviour.
• Assist with high-priority technical incidents and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Challenge requirements or technical approaches when they create unnecessary risk or complexity.

Software engineering quality

• Produce clear, secure, maintainable, and testable code.
• Apply appropriate software design principles and patterns.
• Write effective unit, API, and integration tests.
• Participate in code reviews and provide practical feedback.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated quality controls, and development workflows.
• Address findings from code-quality, dependency, and security-scanning tools.
• Maintain relevant technical documentation and architecture decision records.
• Support controlled releases with appropriate evidence, monitoring, and rollback plans.

Applied AI Software Delivery

• Use AI development tools to improve analysis, coding, testing, documentation, and problem-solving while retaining human review and accountability.
• Designing prompts, context, structured outputs, and tool-calling workflows.
• Build and integrate appropriate AI-enabled capabilities, service, or development workflow into Websure Plus.
• Work with large language models, APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, structured outputs, and AI agents where these solve a defined business problem. Integrating large language models through APIs.
• Develop evaluation methods to test AI accuracy, consistency, safety, reliability, security, and performance.
• Protecting sensitive data used by AI services by implementing, controls for personal information, confidential business data, and model access.
• Implementing retrieval-augmented generation or enterprise knowledge search.
• Ensure that AI-generated code and recommendations receive appropriate human review.
• Monitor AI solutions and identify incorrect, unsafe, or inconsistent outputs.
• Help establish reusable AI engineering patterns for the broader development team.
• Using AI coding tools effectively by understanding the limitations of generative AI, including hallucination, non-deterministic output, and model drift.

API and integration development

• Design and implement secure, well-documented APIs.
• Integrate Websure Plus with brokers, insurers, payment providers, and other service providers.
• Apply standards for authentication, authorisation, versioning, error handling, auditability, and monitoring.
• Support the development of Brolink’s controlled API and marketplace capabilities.
• Prevent external integrations from creating uncontrolled dependencies on internal Websure Plus components.

Data and migration

• Develop and improve product, policy, customer, and financial-data migration processes.
• Build validation, reconciliation, exception-handling, and audit controls into migrations.
• Work with business specialists to resolve data-quality and mapping problems.
• Improve migration automation while retaining appropriate human validation.
• Protect personal and commercially sensitive information in line with POPIA and Brolink’s security requirements.

Team capability development

• Coach developers through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and practical problem-solving.
• Share production experience and explain the reasoning behind technical decisions.
• Help developers move from course-based knowledge to confident implementation.
• Create examples, reusable components and reference implementations.
• Support a culture where developers take responsibility for quality, security, and production outcomes.
• Contribute to technical communities of practice and internal learning sessions.

ADVANTAGOUS

• Short-term insurance, InsurTech or financial-services experience.
• Understanding of policy administration, insurance products, underwriting, claims, and finance.
• Experience with broker, insurer, or financial-service integrations.
• Experience modernising an existing enterprise platform.
• Experience with high-volume transaction or policy-processing systems.
• Experience migrating data from legacy applications.
• Familiarity with application security, POPIA and regulated financial-service environments.
• Experience mentoring junior and intermediate developers.
• Although Brolink is a Microsoft led environment, AWS exposure is advantageous.

TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT

The Websure Plus technology environment includes:

• React and TypeScript front-end applications.
• C# and .NET services
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Microsoft Azure
• Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• REST APIs and third-party integrations.
• Automated unit, API, integration, and user-interface testing
• Insurance product, underwriting, policy, claims, and finance capabilities
• Legacy system and customer-data migrations
• AI-assisted development using tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code
• Emerging use of large language models, retrieval, and AI agents

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant degree with subjects related to Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering and/ or IT or equivalent demonstrable professional experience.
• Certifications will support the application but will not replace evidence of practical delivery experience.

Preferably, in addition to the above:

• Microsoft Azure/AWS developer or architecture certification is advantageous.
• Relevant AI, cloud, security, or DevOps certification is advantageous.
• A formal qualification in the short-term insurance industry, e.g. Certificate of Proficiency Work Experience

Required experience.

• At least six years of professional software-development experience.
• Experience operating at senior developer, senior engineer, or technical lead level.
• Strong firsthand experience with C#, .NET, and relational databases.
• Experience building and supporting APIs and integration services.
• Experience with modern web applications and JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Practical cloud-development experience, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Experience delivering software through automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.
• Experience designing and supporting production systems with real users and operational constraints.
• Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and technical critical thinking skills.
• Evidence of delivering complex functionality from requirements through to production.
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to developers and business stakeholders.
